What happens in recruiting when more players commit than the program has scholarships available?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009
Jim F asked:

This originates from me being a Florida Gators fan. We have some commits that aren’t as good as remaining prospects. I was wondering if more prospects commit, does the program choose what players to accept? Or is it a first come, first served basis?

I mean its not like WVUs a perrenial top 25 recruiting class, but the dude was great down in Florida, and I think he did a pretty damn good job for the small amount of time he had up here. That JUCO DE he got us is gonna be great.

Should Notre Dame join a Football Conference to help with recruiting?

Sunday, June 28th, 2009
Steven C asked:

Or should they just hire a coach who knows how to recruit quality players. I think Notre Dame will be down for a few years, until they can resolve the recruiting issue.

What do you think?

How important is recruiting to a college football program?

Monday, May 25th, 2009
Gone Fishing asked:

Do you think that the college who spends more money on recruiting will sign the recruits who they want to sign? I ask this because of the fact that Kansas State has spent the most money in the Big XII this year on recruiting. They are also # 5 in the nation for the most money spent on recruiting.
What does it cost?

In a recent story on college sports recruiting in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Kansas State was No. 1 among all Big 12 schools in dollars spent on department-wide recruiting at $1.32 million.

That figure also ranked No. 5 in the nation, only behind Tennessee ($2.01 million), Notre Dame ($1.76), Florida ($1.45) and Auburn ($1.37).

From the Big 12, Nebraska was seventh ($1.28), Texas was 12th ($1.16), and Oklahoma No. 14 ($1.12).

The report indicates that K-State spent $450,000 for the use of private planes used for recruiting purposes.
